Education is shameful, if you cannot protect it
in May 3, 2007, it was around 4:35 p.m. on a very hot and humid day, we had a visit to our JHUM land (cultivation of rice on the mountain after clearing the deep forests). We were making the outskirts of our land to protect the land from entering the village cows, sheep’s buffaloes and goats. While making, I heard a strange sound-roaring violently. After a while, I looked at the big cross borders roads constructed or made by B.R.T.F, I guessed that it was BSF vehicle or gypsy.
A group of BSF jawans came down from the gypsy and they boldly entering into the jhum and carelessly moving around the entire areas. They were searching for the fuel- to cook food. They are collecting the scattered woods or logs.
By observing them for 10=15 minutes, my dad has started shouting to them. my dad is a very educated person and literate person, who can read, write and speak Hindi, English and Bengali fluently. At first he has requested them to come out from there since at that time, we had just newly planted the seeds. With this fear, he screamed and warned them to come out. Besides that he has asked them in English “why they had enter in to the jhum without asking us?” the BSF did not listen to us and they carelessly roaming around as if they could not hear us that we are shouting at them………… after half an hour, they came out and directly rush to us. One of them has collected one bamboo- stick from the ground to flee us. But we did not moved backward and we had stood, where we were? Dad, being an educated man, he has also picked up one small stick to protect us from them. I was helpless. I could not do anything and could not help him. They tried to arrest dad and tried to drag him. But among them, there stood a big and tall Punjabi man, wearing a big turban around his head. He came forward and stopped them. He has compromises with us and convince that it was their mistakes.. Perhaps he was the officer or team leader of them. According to me some BSF jawans are really illiterate, aggressive and arrogant. The person was really a parasite, who always gets ready to suck the innocent civilian blood. Many incidents has happened like this before in many remote villages, which is not known to us, the local people don’t have the courage to fight against them for their rights and justice.
It is still happening in many areas or villages across the Bangladesh borders. Many BSF jawans look for wine in the village and pressuring the civilians.
My mom really gets annoyed with me because she thinks that I am god for nothing. I remain silent when they drove my dad. My mom asked dad to make a complain the village headman or directly make a FIR against those miscreants so that they get punished by the officials and by the higher authorities.. but my dad is very silent and cool. Other does not know this incident since we had hidden and did not tried to spread this sad tragedy.
This article is totally dedicated to my dad and mom for their sacrifices for so long.
